To our patients,

We want to make you aware of a situation that will drastically affect the care that we and other cardiology practices are able to provide in the coming months to years. The federal government is reducing the amount it reimburses cardiologists by more than 20% beginning January 1, 2010. These reductions are on top of the 20% cuts in reimbursements instituted by the government in 2009. These massive cuts by Medicare have had a crippling effect on most cardiology practices in our area. With these cuts, we have been forced to reduce work hours for medical support staff, something no one wants to do in these difficult times. Furthermore, many cardiologists are having to reconsider how they can continue to afford to provide core cardiac services to their patients, such as nuclear stress testing and echocardiography. Although these ill thought out cuts have quickly been enlisted without the knowledge of majority of Medicare patients, they will undoubtedly have a major impact on our patients’ ability to get timely and quality cardiac care.

In an effort to continue to provide you with the best possible office-based medical care we need your help. We urge you to contact your legislatures to voice your concerns regarding these scheduled reductions and the imminent threat to your care.

We are providing letters addressed to New Jersey Senators Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg and to your Congressmen representing your district. If you sign each letter and write your address under your signature, we will be happy to mail these letters. Please deliver your signed letter to our staff upon checking-in or checking-out to assure your concerns are heard.

We all thank you for your support in helping to prevent future reductions in Medicare payments. With your help we are hopeful that we will be able to continue to provide you with excellent health care.
